Managing Stress and Anxiety with Acupuncture

We’re all feeling the weight of the world right now. We’re feeling the frustration, the anxiety and fear, the sadness and the pure exhaustion that comes with everything happening in our world.

While there’s only so much we can do to control the circumstances around us, we can control our response to them—and there are things we can do to take extra care of ourselves at this difficult time. We need to continue prioritizing our mental and physical health above all else.

Did you know that acupuncture has been used for centuries to relieve pain and improve overall health? And over the years, as more research surfaced, we quickly learned that its impact extends to our mental health as well. Here’s how it works.

The energy that usually flows smoothly throughout the body can become stuck or scattered due to stress or disease, leading to things like

  • muscle aches and tension,

  • headaches,

  • irritability,

  • restlessness, and

  • fatigue.

Acupuncture works by inserting hair-thin needles in acupoints to open up channels throughout the body for Qi (energy) to flow properly. This creates a feeling of relaxation and relief. Some patients report immediate warm, peaceful sensations while on the acupuncture treatment table. Acupuncture also releases endorphins—hormones associated with positive moods.
